Throughout our KIDS CAN’T WAIT: 30 Day Miracle Movement for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center we will be hosting a variety of fun-filled activities and events for all ages! Unless otherwise noted, activities are free, and registration will close at 9 p.m. the night before an event. Invitations and Zoom links will be sent to registered participants' email addresses the morning of each activity.

Past Events

Friday, Oct. 16: Chiapparelli’s Pastathon
Time: 11:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Cost: $50 for Family Meal for 4 or $70 for Family Meal for 6
Audience: Families
Description: Sprint to Chiapparelli's in Little Italy and order one of their Family Meal Specials benefiting Johns Hopkins Children’s Center! Available for dine-in or carryout, the options include all of the carbs you need to be race-day ready. All meals include salad, bread, choice of 3 entrees and mini cannoli (gluten-free pasta available). Pick 3: Lasagna, penne vodka (with chicken), eggplant parmesan, chicken parmesan, spaghetti and meatballs. Wine by the bottle available to add to order starting at $10. Friday, Oct. 16: KIDS CAN'T WAIT Opening Ceremonies

Description: Head to the Friends of Johns Hopkins Children's Center Facebook page at 7 p.m. for an exciting KIDS CAN'T WAIT kick-off video with Johns Hopkins Children's Center leadership! Hear an inspirational story from one of our patient families and learn about all the fun ways you can get involved over the 30-day movement. 

Saturday, Oct. 17: Team Hopkins Kids Virtual Race Day
Time: 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Audience: Families
Description: Join Team Hopkins Kids for a virtual Race Day! Run (or walk!) any distance and hear powerful stories throughout the morning from Johns Hopkins Children's Center patients, families and care providers. Videos will be posted on the Friends of Johns Hopkins Children's Center Facebook page

Sunday, Oct. 18: Scavenger Hunt
Audience: Families
Description: Get your family and friends together for a fun virtual scavenger hunt! Use this template and virtual scavenger hunt instructions from and see who can find a variety of items around the house quickest! It's the perfect virtual activity for the entire family. 

Monday, Oct. 19:  Artsy Partsy Drawing Lesson
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Audience: School-aged and teen
Description: Get your creative juices moving and join us for an at-home action-themed drawing session with Jeannette Nunez from Artsy Partsy! Grab a pencil and paper and create your favorite movie-themed sketches and more. Register.

Tuesday, Oct. 20: 5 Quick and Cheap Healthy Meals with the ReNEW Clinic
Audience: Families
Description: With the majority of us learning virtually and working from home, it is easy to let routines fall by the wayside, including making meals and eating healthy. Check out this tutorial and learn how to make 5 quick, cheap, and healthy meals that are perfect for meal prep or your daily breaks.

Wednesday, Oct. 21: Coping with COVID-19
Audience: Families
Description: We know this is a difficult and stressful time for families. Thursday, Oct. 22:  National "Make a Dog's Day" Day – Virtual Dog Walk

Friday, Oct. 23: Not-So-Scary Movie Night
Audience: Families
Description: Clear out the family room and camp indoors with blankets, popcorn, and your favorite not-so-scary movies. Bust out the classics or check out Good Housekeeping's 41 Kids' Halloween Movies That Won't Keep Them up All Night. Make sure to post your adventures on our Kudoboard!

Saturday, Oct. 24: Biking and Barre for Babies with Core Cycle Studios
Time: 12 – 12:45 p.m.
Cost: $25 (in-studio), $20 (virtual).

Description: Classes can be added in-studio (limited number of spots) or virtually
  • Core Crush signature cycling class: join Core Cycle Studios instructor Tracy Newman for a heavy sweat session and motivation. Riders participate in an intensity profile that works in 7 zones - from anaerobic to recovery.
  • Core Barre: join Core Cycle Studios instructor Cassie O'Malley for a targeted workout series that is thoughtfully designed around low impact exercise combined with isometric movement to create incredible results. We use the ballet barre and other small props to move you through the class. You will leave feeling leaner, toned, and definitely stronger.

Sunday, Oct. 25: Book Reading with Author and Illustrator Nina Laden
Time: 12 – 1 p.m.
Audience: School-age
Description: Join author and illustrator Nina Laden live for a reading of her latest book,You Are A Beautiful Beginning, followed by a guided drawing and inspiration session for all ages. Participants will have the chance to participate in a Q&A with Nina during this creative session. Have blank paper and a pencil ready! Register.

Monday, Oct. 26: National Pumpkin Day – Pumpkin Carving 
Audience: Families
Description: Be sure to pick your pumpkin in advance of National Pumpkin Day and then download our special pumpkin carving stencils for Johns Hopkins Children's Center supporters! Be sure to share a picture of your carved pumpkin on our Kudoboard, or by tagging Friends of Hopkins Children’s on Facebook and Instagram. We can't wait to see your creations!

Tuesday, Oct. 27: National Beer Day - Virtual Beer Tasting with Oliver Brewing Co.
Time: – 8 p.m.

Audience: 21 and up
Description: In honor of National Beer Day, join us for a virtual beer tasting hosted by 
Oliver Brewing Company team member and Hopkins Children's patient dad, Craig Williams. Pick up your 4-pack of 12-ounce tasting beers on Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24, from 12 - 4 p.m. at the brewery. All proceeds will benefit Child Life services in the NICU.

Wednesday, Oct. 28: Visit the National Aquarium Livestream
Audience: Families
Description: Did you know that our patients can visit the National Aquarium by using a "telepresence robot" called WeGo? The Aquarium has designated a few tour specialists to guide the robots from exhibit to exhibit explaining to the child what they are seeing. The patient actually moves the WeGo using a keyboard of a computer. Did you also know that the Aquarium has a live livestream so your little ones can check up on their fish and shark friends anytime they want? Check it out!

Thursday, Oct. 29: Charm City: Our Community, Our Commitment
Audience: TV-MA. This program is intended to be viewed by mature, adult audiences and may be unsuitable for children under 17.

Friday, Oct. 30: Reverse Trick-or-Treating at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center
Audience: Corporate Partners and Foundations
Description: Join us for an exclusive sponsorship opportunity as Children’s Center staff members deliver costumes and goodies to patient rooms. With a sponsorship of $2,500 or more, sponsors will receive a link to participate in this virtual, reverse trick-or-treat parade. Contact Cynthia Palacz for more information.

Saturday, Oct. 31: Halloween Yoga Nidra
Time: 10 a.m.
Audience: Families
Description: Get rid of the scaries and join us for a virtual Yoga Nidra Session hosted by local instructor Linda McGill. In this class you will be guided through a detailed sleep meditation that will allow your mind and body to slip into a deep state of relaxation. Register.

Sunday, Nov. 1: National Family Literacy Day – Book Reading with Author Deborah Diesen

Description: We're kicking off National Family Literacy Month with a special read aloud of Equality's Call: The Story of Voting Rights in America by Deborah Diesen. As our country prepares for Election Day, gather your family for an all-ages read aloud and supporting activities that you can do at home. Register.

Sunday, Nov. 1: Charm City FRIENDS Themed Trivia Night

Tuesday, Nov. 3: Show Us Your Talent – VOTE Coloring Page

Description: We'd love to see your artwork! Description: Join local artist and former Johns Hopkins Children's Center patient Shelby Blondell for a virtual concert experience! Shelby will be performing original songs but will also be taking requests, so come ready with one of your favorites for some Friday night fun! Join us on Facebook Live at 7! 

Saturday, Nov. 7: Extra Life 24-hour Gaming Marathon
Audience: Families
Description: Join thousands of gamers supporting 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals during the COVID-19 Pandemic as they play games and heal kids. Tune in to a special live stream featuring Hopkins Kid Trip Black as he duels Australian Gamer and YouTuber Legend of Total War at 3 p.m. EST. Register and learn more. Sunday, Nov. 8: The Portrait Process! A Virtual Photography Class with Kady Dulny
Time: 12 p.m

Description: Grab your camera/smartphone and a buddy and join photographer Kady Dulny for a virtual photography class. Learn Kady's process for creating the best lighting, finding the best angles and other tips and tricks to take the perfect photo at home - no fancy equipment needed! Monday, Nov. 9: Give Thanks with Thanksgiving Crafts
Audience: Families
Description: It's the season of thanks and giving - prepare for the upcoming holiday with some easy Thanksgiving crafts for kids from Country Living.
 As your little ones string together gratitude bracelets and paint bubble wrap to look like corn on the cobs, they are also pausing to reflect on the meaning of the holiday itself - and as they grow older, that is something they'll cherish as much as you.

Wednesday, Nov. 11: We Will Survive: DIY Terrariums and How to Care for Them (& Other House Plants) This Winter
Time: 7 – 7:45 p.m. 
Audience: Families
Dropping temperatures, reduced daylight, and social distancing are all contributors to the "winter blues". Plants can help combat the negative effects of the season ahead. Don't believe you have a green thumb? Terrariums are a great introduction to plants and make a great statement piece in the home. Join the plant experts at local DC/Baltimore area Ace Hardware chain "A Few Cool Hardware Stores" for a guided DIY virtual tutorial on how to make your own terrarium, along with live FAQ on general plant care and a chance to ask questions on how to keep houseplants happy through the cold winter months. Description: Join us for a virtual wine tasting hosted by the Benziger Family Winery and sponsored by The Kendall Burrows Foundation. Your ticket includes 4 bottles of wine (Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc) with the option to ship for an additional donation. All proceeds will support Palliative Care at Johns Hopkins Children's Center.
