Louisa's Warriors

As another year passes, Johns Hopkins Children’s Center remains such an integral part of our lives. It seems that as the years go by we feel closer and closer to the hospital. Things haven’t always been easy on Louisa’s journey but even in our darkest days Johns Hopkins Children’s Center has been our partner.

Even with a difficult decision this year to travel to an out of state hospital for some very specialized/critical care, our doctors at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center encouraged us and supported us.

At birth, Louisa was diagnosed with Congenital Ileal Atresia, which led to her very first life-saving surgery at 4 days old. Then, a little after her 1st birthday, Louisa had 2 additional life-saving surgeries due to Congenital Ileal Atresia. These 2 surgeries ultimately left her with a Short Bowel. Her Short Bowel is now managed through the amazing THRIVE center (The Hopkins Resource for Intestinal Vitality and Enhancement) at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

And this past year, at age 2 ½, she was diagnosed with a Congenital Esophageal Stricture, which has required many many treatments so far. These treatments will continue for the foreseeable future. But, as the journey continues, we find ourselves touched by so many staff throughout the hospital; surgeons, doctors, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, development staff, medical records staff, etc. It’s the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center as a whole that we feel is our partner on this journey.

But, Louisa also has another partner…and that is all of you – Louisa’s Warriors!!!

This year, our family will participate on Team Hopkins Kids for the 2nd straight year in the Baltimore Running Festival on October 19, 2019. All of our teams fundraising efforts will directly benefit the Pediatric Surgery Department at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. After undergoing three major life-saving surgeries at Johns Hopkins (and dozens of little procedures), Louisa and her Warriors (all of you!) will have the opportunity to give back to the amazing Surgeons that help saved her life and the lives of countless others.

Please come run with our team – Louisa’s Warriors – or make a donation to our Team!!!
