Dear Friends,

As a parent caregiver, part of coping with your child’s illness requires taking care of yourself, too. A wonderful analogy is to think of what the flight attendant instructs people to do before an airplane takes off. She instructs the adult to put their oxygen mask on first, and then help the child sitting next to them. Parents, while they may have faced stressful times before, often are not prepared for the reality of having a chronically ill child. Being in a new environment for long periods of time is stressful and frightening. Often, in these situations, parents become overwhelmed and exhausted.

This story is not uncommon. More than 200 families experience this on a daily basis at Johns Hopkins Children's Center. I was one of those families. That is why I chose to get involved as a volunteer to help make the experience for families just a little better. Now, I'm determined to run my first ever 5K for the Children's Center on Saturday, October 19!

I hope you will consider supporting my participation on Team Hopkins Kids at this year's Baltimore Running Festival as I run to raise money for the Patient and Family Centered Care fund at Johns Hopkins Children's Center.

All contributions will help provide care, comfort, and support for more than 100,000 patients seen each year.

This cause is very dear to me, and I'll appreciate all the support I can get!
Together we can make a difference!

For the Kids,
